Shri Ajoy Mehta took over as the Managing Director of the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd. (MSEDCL) on Feb. 2nd , 2009. Earlier Shri Mehta was Managing Director of Maharashtra State Electricity Generation Company Ltd (MAHAGENCO).During his tenure at MAHAGENCO he initiated a massive power generation capacity expansion programme in Maharashtra. At present MAHAGENCO is executing projects totaling 3000 MW of thermal capacity. Shri Mehta holds a Bachelor of Technology in Civil Engineering from Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University and M.B.A (Finance) from U.K. He joined the Indian Administrative Service in 1984. He was Collector of Ahmednagar District. Later he was Municipal Commissioner of Nashik where he had organized smooth running of Kumbhmela in the year 1992-93. He was also Joint Commissioner of Mumbai Municipal Corporation and Director of Horticulture, Government of India.
